Family Tree Wall Art: Sizes and Where to Hang It

A family tree canvas is wall art first. This page covers the two sizes, how big they look in a room and where they hang best.
The two sizes
| Canvas | Price | Looks right above | Names |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 × 24 in (91 × 61 cm) | $129 | A sofa up to about 7 ft, a fireplace, a sideboard or a hallway console | Most families, up to about 25 names |
| 48 × 32 in (122 × 81 cm) | $199 | A long sofa, a king or queen bed, a large empty wall | Big families; every name prints a third larger |
A simple rule: art above furniture looks best at about two-thirds of the furniture's width. Measure the sofa or bed and pick the size closer to two-thirds of it.

Where to hang it
Living room
Above the sofa is the most common spot. Hang it so the bottom edge sits 8 to 10 inches above the back of the sofa.
Above a fireplace
The 36 × 24 in canvas fits most mantels. Leave a few inches between the mantel and the bottom edge.
Bedroom
The 48 × 32 in canvas works above a queen or king bed, centred over the headboard.
Hallway or entryway
Above a console table, the tree is the first thing visitors see, and the names give them something to read while they take their coats off.
Care
Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight to keep the colours fresh.
Type the names, watch the tree paint itself, and see the exact canvas before you order. From $129, free US shipping.
